Daniel Gomes, PhD in Web Research

Short biography

Daniel Gomes is the leader of the Portuguese Web Archive and manager of the web development team at the Portuguese National Foundation for Scientific Computing (FCCN). He collaborates with the European Commission as an independent expert to evaluate research activities on Information and Communication Technologies.

His main interests are team management, web publication, usability, accessibility for people with disabilities, information systems design and information retrieval.

Daniel maintains a site in where he shares useful findings to the Portuguese-speaking web community.

He is an invited researcher at the XLDB Research Team of the University of Lisbon. His PhD thesis, entitled “Web Modelling for Web Warehouse design”, described the characteristics of web data and discussed their impact on the design of web data processing systems.

Previously, he was a researcher at the Institute of Applied Science and Technology where he designed and developed a system to archive selected online publications, in collaboration with the Portuguese National Library. He also participated in the development of a framework to support the search of news across online publications in collaboration with Público, a national newspaper.
